Building Expansion

Considerations for expansion and building movement include:

- A minimum gap of 10mm is required next to exterior room walls and around all vertical obstructions, including fixed furnishings and cabinets.
- For installations where the floor is laid floating, skirting boards and scotia must be securely attached to the wall. This ensures the natural movement of the floor is not hindered.
- For areas extending beyond 12m in any one direction, especially in locations subject to significant temperature changes, it is advised to incorporate intermediate expansion joints to accommodate movement.
- In regions with high humidity, such as Queensland (QLD), the expansion gaps should be increased to at least 15mm to account for additional moisture in the air.
- The temperature of the room before, during, and after installation should be maintained at levels typical of everyday living conditions. Additionally, the flooring product should be acclimated to room temperature before the installation commences.
